Southlake Colleyville Grapevine Photographer-First Birthday Portraits at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens
Early last summer I was contacted by this sweet grandmother to take her grand baby’s first birthday portraits. The grandmother explained that her daughter and grand daughter lived out of town and would be visiting her in Southlake for her first birthday party that weekend. While they were in town, she wanted a first birthday photo shoot and generational pictures of her granddaughter, daughter, herself, and her mother.
I was so excited for this one year photo session in Grapevine. We spoke over the phone several times and talked about outfit choices, as well as location options. Since sweet baby Lark was happiest in the morning, we planned the session shortly after sunrise. Upon discussing details, we decided on the Grapevine Botanical Gardens as the ideal location.
Grandmother requested some photo examples to help her coordinate everyone’s wardrobe for the photo session. I sent her my wardrobe guide and tips (which may be found by clicking here) and also some generational portraits I found on Pinterest to guide her on the colors and textures to choose.
When she was describing to me how important it was to capture a portrait with the four generations in their family, I instantly pictured creams and neutrals as the perfect wardrobe choices. I believe that classic colors will hold the most value and stand the test of time, so I always guide in the direction of timeless and elegant versus trendy.
The Grapevine Botanic Gardens are small and quaint but with pretty winding paths, a wooden bridge, and some flowers sprinkled throughout they were the perfect location that was both convenient and picturesque for this first birthday photo shoot.
I started with capturing pictures of sweet Miss Lark individually. We did some on my wooden box in front of the flowers and some sitting on the bridge. It had rained the night before, so we tried to keep her off the grass since it was still muddy.
We then moved on to capturing everyone together. I also suggested that we take portraits of Lark with her mom, her grandmother, and her great grandmother individually.
Miss Lark was the happiest baby and we captured so many beautiful first birthday photos of her!
I always find that generational portraits are so special. I can only imagine what they will mean to Lark when she is grown and has pictures of her on her first birthday with her mommy, grandma, and great grandma.
I received an email from grandma that great grandmother passed away just a few short weeks after these portraits were taken. I was so sad to hear this, but in her email to me grandmother expressed how very precious it was to her that she had these photos made.
I know portrait sessions take time and require a lot of effort to coordinate and plan, but truly there is nothing more precious than pictures with our loved ones.
I am so very honored to capture these milestone portraits for families. It is my hope that they are cherished and handed down for many generations.
