In Home Photography in Southlake Texas
I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family earlier this year at their home in Southlake, Texas.
One of the children called me and explained they needed family portraits of their entire extended family and that it was time sensitive due to some extenuating circumstances.
The portraits had to be at the grandparents’ home, so I stopped by a couple of days before to scope out their yard. Normally, I only shoot at locations in which I am familiar with the lighting and scenery, but will make accommodations for special circumstances. They had a beautiful yard, and although it was February, I was able to find a small spot where the grass was green and the ivy crawling up the fence. Most importantly, the location also had the perfect lighting for back lit golden hour portraits.
Multi generational photos are so special and are truly a precious heirloom that can be handed down for many generations to come. What is more special than for a child than to have a photograph of them with their parents, grandparents, uncles, and cousins.
Normally, I will photograph the entire family all together first. If small children are involved I often bring along an assistant. Next, I move on to the grandparents with their own children, the grandparents alone, the grandparents with the grand children, each individual family unit, and all the cousins together.
Extended family sessions can be a lot of work. They often involve many images taken, and sometimes many head swaps in Photoshop, but the finished product is always one families will cherish.
The Strickland family was lots of fun and so welcoming and friendly! They also did a great job coordinating their outfits for the pictures by wearing varying shades of blues and creams. I always tell families to try to have everyone coordinate, but not match exactly, and they pulled it off perfectly!
